His strong amateur background includes multiple national championships and winning gold at the Central American and Caribbean Games. Throughout his career, he followed Puerto Rican legend, Miguel Cotto, and is now promoted under Cotto’s promotional agency. Having the motivation to dedicate his career to his brother, a solid amateur pedigree, and the backing of his nation’s icon, Angel “Tito” Acosta made the transition to the professional ranks in 2012 and has not looked back.
“Tito” still lives and trains in Barrio Obrero, Puerto Rico. While growing up in the housing projects, he constantly found himself in fights at school and in the streets. His older brother would eventually take him to a boxing gym and even helped manage Tito early on in his amateur career. His brother suddenly died early in Tito’s amateur career, but Tito still committed himself to the sport and dedicates all of his future wins to his late brother, Luis.
